With the winter weather and New Year’s Resolutions finally here I start to see a lot of aches and pains that can be alleviated with chiropractic care.

Starting with the dreading winter weather a lot of slip and falls and shoveling or even snow blowing cause pain and subluxations.  When you have a fall your body obviously has a jarring motion that is actually very similar to whiplash.  You are moving fast and then come to a sudden stop.  This force has to go somewhere in your body and it usually is absorbed by your spine.  However, there is a consequence to this.  You can misalign or subluxate the bones in your spine.  This can cause pain in the short term or chronic pain and wear and tear type injuries if not treated.  The usual home therapy is ice for 20 minutes, with a bit of irony in there of course.  And then getting adjusted by a chiropractor.  Usually if you have just had a fall you should feel better after 5-7 adjustments.  The other winter injury is of course snow shoveling.  Bending, reaching and throwing causes a tremendous amount of strain on the low and mid back.  It is always better to push the snow than lift and twist and throw.

The gyms become packed with newbies this time of year too.  All the people that have vowed to lose that weight or just get into better shape for the new year.  We all know this tends to fizzle out but in January and February I see a lot of strains and sprains from couch potatoes hitting the weights and cardio machines.  Chiropractic care can help here too.  Elements Chiropractic has electric stimulation that can calm down muscle spasms and adjustments will help decrease any joint pain you are having with your new routine.  After all if you don’t hurt you are more likely to stick with the improved life style.

Happy New Year and I look forward to working with you for many years to come here at Elements Chiropractic.
