Chiropractic care is underutilized, not only in Kalamazoo and Portage areas, but in the entire United States.  Studies have shown about 15-20% of the population see a chiropractor, but 75% of people will have back pain at some point in their life.  With a relevant need of 75% of the population, chiropractic care is not as highly used as toilet paper, but I’d say a close second.  What made me think of this silly topic?  I was listening to a comedian and he had a good point, “Why do we need commercials for toilet paper?  Isn’t everybody using this?”  Hopefully you have seen my commercials, and I thought, hey everybody needs to see a chiropractor too.  Just the obvious need is not as prevalent as the need for toilet paper.  We only think of our doctors when we hurt or are sick, kind of like toilet paper.  Do you ever think about toilet paper when you don’t need it?

So starting with the obvious, about 70% of people go to a chiropractor because they have back or neck pain with the related symptoms of sciatica, arm pain, headaches etc.  That makes 30% of visits for wellness care.  What the heck is that?  Why would I go to the doctor if nothing is wrong?  Why would I think about toilet paper if I don’t need it?  This is where chiropractors differ from medical doctors.  A chiropractor is interested in making your body function properly and regular tune ups are a crucial part of this wellness.  Your nervous system controls every organ in your body and chiropractic adjustments make this system work properly.  Just like toilet paper is a crucial part of your daily routine, chiropractic care is a crucial part of your health and wellness.
