I’m sure you have heard somebody say this, or maybe you have expressed this sentiment.  I think a better way to express this concern is “I don’t understand chiropractic.”  Chiropractic is form of medical care that originated in the 1890’s.  For fun I attached a link of wacky medical procedures that were believed to be helpful to people during the turn of the century when chiropractic was just beginning.  Some of the fun ones like blood letting to let out evil spirits, heroin as cough medicine or lobotomies to cure homosexuality…these were all viewed as reasonable treatments.  I remember my Mother telling me she used to have an x-ray taken of her feet when trying on shoes to see if it was a proper fit, and of course we learned all that radiation is not good for you.

As a chiropractor I’m not asking you to believe in God or join some cult and drink the Kool-Aid.  I’m asking you to become educated on what chiropractors do and how it can help you.  I focus a lot of my time in my practice teaching people what I do and what they need to do to make their pain go away or to be healthier.  Chiropractors complete an undergraduate program and then go on to complete four more years at chiropractic school.  We focus all of our practice on musculoskeletal conditions and treating them with no medications.  I’m not so foolish to think that patients will never need medications to cope with their pain while they work on getting their condition fixed with chiropractic care, that’s why I work so openly with family doctors and neurosurgeons.

Chiropractic care has not changed in its primary focus in roughly 120 years.  The focus has alway been on the spine and correcting subluxations to heal the body and reduce pain.  I don’t understand how batteries store power by acid and lead, but that doesn’t mean they don’t work.  But I could educate myself and learn.  Take a step in the right direction and educate yourself and experience chiropractic care and change the dogmatic beliefs that are limiting your health and well being.
